The Saturday Evening Post did an article called “Signs that you may need a new mattress”
- You wake up with stiffness, numbness, or aches and pains.
- You had a better night’s sleep somewhere other than your own bed (Such as a hotel).
- Your mattress shows visible signs of overuse (it sags, is lumpy, is torn or soiled).
- Your mattress is 5-7 years old.
A Mattress is the most important-and-used-piece of furniture in a home. Because sleep is so critical to our ability to function and feel our best, it is important to evaluate your sleep set on a regular basis.
Lack of sleep can make you susceptible to catching a cold. Those who slept an average of fewer than seven hours a night were three times more likely to get sick than those who averaged at least eight hours.
Exercise regularly. Exercising in the morning is best, but if you must exercise in the evening, do it at least two to three hours before bedtime. Any later and your increased heart rate can interfere with your sleep.
Try to avoid caffeinated beverages such as coffee, colas and tea late in the day and near bedtime. Also for each cup of caffeinated beverages you drink each day, drink an equal amount of water.
Eat an early dinner. Eating later in the day may interfere with sleep as your body works to digest the food you’ve eaten.
Regardless of whether you like your mattress firm or soft give it a good trial run by laying down on it for a minimum of three to five minutes to get a good feel. Sitting on it simply won’t do.
Protect your investment of better sleep with a breathable waterproof mattress protector. Ohio State University experts reported that a typical used mattress may have anywhere from 100,000 to 10 million dust mites inside it.
